"Sunshine"

Who doesn't love a VW bus. I have always thought these were the coolest! I just happen to be too tall to fit into one. This was really fun. Hope you enjoy!

"Red Roost Ride"

Just finished this one of a 1950 GMC. We love these trucks and would love to own one of these and have it restored. This one and many of my others will be for sell on ETSY soon.

"The Moxie"

Well it's finally done! It was delivered today and everyone was pleased. I really love the feel in this one. Night time on the downtown streets is one of my favorite times for a walk. I wish I was sitting out there right now!

Knock

This is another in the "Door" series. The Lord was speaking to me about open doors and understanding the importance seeking and knocking "you have not because you ask not." Blue has for years been so important in my life reminding me of the revelatory nature of the Father. He is calling us through the open door to see what we have never dreamed was possible.

Student Work/Progress from Art Class 2009

I wanted to share some of my students work and their progress. This is from Ben Roberts who has taken my "Beginners" and "Advanced" drawing class. He really has worked so hard and made great improvements since he first started. The above are some of his first drawings. Below are from the first few months of the advanced class.

Ben has started his first portrait. The below picture was his first attempt.

After making some adjustments and a few more teaching moments he has made a huge improvement. Are you kidding me! Look at Elijah Wood come to life. Way to go Ben!!!

The Pitman

Here is our beloved Pitman theater. I have always loved this place and have wanted to paint it for some time now. I took this photo last week and I really liked the composition. I do believe it will be my next project.

The stairwell

This is a shoot I took recently in our church building. It is a back staircase that leads to the street from the upstairs area which is under contruction. I really love the feel of this shot. It might make a great painting.

The Garrett's

This was a Christmas gift for friends of ours. It was the husbands gift to his wife. She was very pleased, actually she screamed and cried. What else could you ask for in a response.

The Old Family House

This is my father in laws childhood home. We decided to surprise him with an original painting. We hope he likes it!

Here is a recent sketch I have been working on. I like the unfinished feel to this so I may not finish it out completely.

Monday, August 25, 2008

This is a painting out of a "Door" series that I did last year. The Lord was speaking to me about "See, I have placed before you an open door". About that time we began to cut a opening between our two buildings at church and build an "Open Door". This is the door and I painted it to represent an open heaven beyond "the open door"

Logan and Breck

Just wanted to show the other side of my work. I have done a lot of portrait work over the years. This one is of my son Logan when he was 3 years old and my daughter Breck around 2 years old. Hard to believe when I look at them now. They both loved wearing hats at that age and we wanted to capture that time in our lives. I am really focusing on painting right now but I still will do a portrait from time to time.

"Black and White Style"

I have been looking at this chair for months now thinking it would make a great painting. The bold black and white print with the pheasant was just to good to pass up. I thought the warm colors would be a great contrast with the cool crispness of the chair. I'm loving this one.

"Water from the Rock"

Watercolor
This is a watercolor I did about 3 years ago. I painted this after seeing a special on the real Mount Sinai. They found this rock near the mountain. It was spit down the middle and had signs of water erosion on the rock and around the site. Something you don't see in the desert. How cool is that! Anyway I painted this based on the photo of the rock. This is from a period when I was doing a lot in watercolor. I really like watercolor but enjoy the texture and intense color of oil and acrylic.

Study of the Cross

Here is a piece I did in college. I did a series of paintings on the cross. It is where I first started developing a style of painting. This is when I began falling in love with texture and color. This painting has been one of my favorites for sometime now, hanging in my office and hanging in different rooms in our home. It has always amazed me that people could see this painting, for some as long as 2 years, and not see Jesus on the cross. I always thought it was pretty obvious. I thought I would post it and share it.

Bird On A Wire

12x24
Acrylic on Canvas
I love the composition on this one. I was just trying to keep it loose. Something about this painting reminds of something that Bill Watterson would do, you know "Calvin and Hobbes". I love Calvin and Hobbes. Well anyway it was fun, hope you enjoy.

Foxy Moxie

This is a painting I did for my friend Kris Cato. He owns the best and the coolest hair salon anywhere. He has a great place in downtown Gadsden, AL. His place is called "The Moxie". It's has a great vibe. He works his magic on my family and the results are awesome. We were in last week for my son to get "Moxified" and he showed me an antique Moxie soda bottle. I thought it would make a great painting and cool surprise. I started researching Moxie soda bottles and ran across this one. It is different from any of the others and I loved the saying "Be Foxy Drink Moxie" I thought it fit perfectly. I finished it on his birthday and gave it to him as a house warming gift for their new home, but it may end up at The Moxie. Anyway, I loved the end result.

The White Palace

This is one of my favorite old buildings in our great downtown area in Gadsden, AL. It's called "The White Palace". It has a wonderful retro vibe and I really love the color. It has been a building I've wanted to paint for sometime now. I wanted to keep it loose and full color and texture. I really enjoyed the process and I hope you enjoy the end result.

Gladys

I really like painting cows. Why? Who knows! There fun, have great facial expressions and the possibilities seem to be endless on how to paint them. This was one that looks like she is peeking around the corner and interrupting your view. As always I try to find an unusual way paint something with as much color and texture as possible. Anyway, I and my family love Gladys and we hope you do too.
